The Tragedy We Must Address First
In Other News - Anthony Joshua's Uncle Says someone who was present at the accident scene stole the boxer's phone. Now, before I dive into this story and reveal the three people I suspect, let's be clear from the start:
A tragic incident happened to Anthony Joshua. One thing I do not even pray happens to my enemies. Two men died. Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami lost their lives in a horrific car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on New Year's Day. They were friends of boxing champion Anthony Joshua, travelling with him to spend the holidays with family in Sagamu. Joshua himself was injured in the crash.
When I heard the news, I felt devastated. Like play, like play, Anthony Joshua would have been no more. My deepest condolences to their families and loved ones.
Now, with that gravity properly established, we need to talk about what happened next at that accident scene. Because honestly, you cannot make this up. Nigerians just had to show Anthony Joshua that he has truly arrived home.
What Normal Countries Do at Accident Scenes:
In any sane country, when a major car accident happens, the first thing that comes to mind is: "How do we save lives?"
The intelligent ones call emergency services. The smart ones clear the road and flag down nearby cars for help. The nice ones will even take you in their car straight to the hospital. Basically, reasonable people show basic human decency
What Nigeria Does at Accident Scenes:
But in Nigeria? Their thinking is directly opposite. If they are not: Streaming the accident live on TikTok and Instagram (because content > compassion, apparently) They are adding sound effects by screaming "Jesus see blood!" (like that will solve anything), or they are looking for things to steal from the damaged vehicle
Joshua's uncle put it perfectly: "Some Nigerians act badly at accident scenes. When they are supposed to help, you will see them bringing out their phones to make videos and even steal from the victims."
Brother really said "some Nigerians" with the diplomatic restraint of a UN ambassador.
The Audacity: Robbing a Professional Boxer
I pity whoever stole the phone. We seem to forget that Anthony Joshua is a TWO-TIME HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD.
This man punches people professionally. His fists are registered weapons in 47 countries (I made that up, but they should be). And someone thought, "Yes, this is the guy I'm going to rob. While he's conscious. At an accident scene. What could go wrong?"
BREAKING: 3 Prime Suspects in Anthony Joshua Phone Theft
Now it is very important to mention that I have done my research and I have come up with three possible suspects. I really do not know who stole the phone, but after studying the video and seeing some online evidence, I have come to the conclusion that one of these three suspects did it.
Suspect #1: The Mohawk Guy with AirPods
Suspicious Activity Level: 8/10
If you watch the video closely, you will notice that as the different soldiers tried bringing Anthony Joshua out of the car, the guy with the Mohawk was the closest person to Anthony Joshua, and he wasn't looking at Anthony Joshua. Instead, he kept his face downwards, most likely looking at the boxer's pocket. Who wears an AirPods during an emergency? Also, that Mohawk (okay, this one isn't evidence, but it's suspicious). In his defence, maybe he was making sure AJ didn't drop anything.
Suspect #2: The Driver
Suspicious Activity Level: 7/10
The driver wasn't injured. He saw everything that happened, and I am sure he must have seen Anthony using the phone while they were riding and hoped he could get something like that. So he took it when he saw an opportunity. In his defence, the man was traumatised and in shock, but can one be traumatised enough not to steal an iPhone 16 Plus? Think about it!
Suspect #3: @FWZISHERE on Twitter đ±
Suspicious Activity Level: 10/10 (MOST SUSPICIOUS)
Barely 48 hours after the accident, the owner of this account on Twitter has come out to say that they have the phone and want to sell it. The user posted the image of the phone and wrote: "UK used iPhone 16 Plus for sale. 1TB" There are so many red flags here. How did the person know the EXACT phone model AJ had? The person said UK used, Anthony Joshua actually lives in the UK. The audacity to post the phone publicly with Anthony Joshua as the wallpaper. Thats massive!!! I don't know if this person is telling the truth or if the person is only chasing clout. Either way, the owner of the account is my final suspectâand the most likely culprit.
Rumour has it that the thief has unlocked the iPhone and is scamming people to send money to their OPAY Account. I don't know how true this is though. Now, I know some of you are saying, "But iPhones can't be unlocked without the owner!"
Well, let us not test the mighty men of Computer Village in Ikeja, because those people can do an undo. They will format your unformattable. They will unlock your unlockable. They will make your iPhone think it's an Android. Never underestimate Computer Village technicians.
These are the same people who: Can charge your phone using only pure vibes, they will tell you your screen isn't cracked, just "temporarily fractured", they can fix anything with a screwdriver and audacity. If anyone can bypass Apple's security, it's the guys at Computer Village. Tim Cook himself would be impressed and terrified.
But seriously though, WHO steals a phone at an accident scene? I think the real question should be: Why would anyone steal a phone at a car accident scene? I am sure the thief must have said, "Anthony Joshua has money na. He fit buy another one. This one wey I no get phone, make I just take am. Na God send am for me."
or maybe
"iPhone 16 Plus 1TB? That's like âŠ2 million on Jiji! My December never reset, abeg I need this."
or maybe
"Maybe he has nudes of celebrities in here. I go sell am to blogs. I don hammer!"
I am still wondering what the thief will do with the phone. Who knows? Sell it on Jiji? List it as "Slightly used iPhone, previous owner was distracted by car accident, barely any blood on it"? Post on Facebook Marketplace: "iPhone for sale, low mileage, one careful owner (who survived a crash)"? Or maybe the thief felt like since it's Anthony Joshua, he should have enough money to buy a new one. After all, he made so much money in his last fight, right?
Wrong. That's not how morality works, my guy.
A Message to the Thief (If You're Reading This) â ïž
Well, if you're the thief and you manage to stumble upon this article, I have good news and bad news for you.
The Good News:
Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering. Governors from Ogun and Lagos states ensured he got proper medical care. President Tinubu reached out to the family. So at least the people who SHOULD be helping actually did help.
The Bad News:
Just like John Wick, you do not know what you have done by taking that phone. You didn't steal from a regular person. You stole from a man who: Has international connections, Can afford the best private investigators, knows people who know people, Can literally punch through walls.
Make sure you stay hidden because Anthony Joshua will look for you, and once he finds you, you will use your face as a punching bag and he'll pour his whole anger on you.
Remember: John Wick went on a rampage over a dog. Imagine what a heavyweight champion will do over an iPhone 16 Plus with 1TB storage. That phone probably has his whole life on it!
My Advice to the Thief:
- Return the phone anonymously
- Repent
- Move to Antarctica
- Change your name
- Never come back
- Pray AJ has a forgiving spirit
Look, the humour here isn't about the accident or the victims. It's about the absolutely bananas behaviour of people who see tragedy and think "opportunity!" It's about the broken emergency response systems that leave injured people to walk themselves to safety. It's about how we can do SO much better.
To the Person Who Stole Anthony Joshua's Phone:
I hope the guilt eats you alive more than any punch AJ could throw. Return the phone. Apologize. Do better. And start praying he doesn't find you, because when he does, it's going to be a worse beating than any opponent in the ring ever gave him.
To Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami:
May you rest in peace. Your loss is felt. You deserved better. Nigeria failed you.
To Anthony Joshua:
Speedy recovery, champ. We're glad you survived. And maybe invest in one of those Apple AirTags or phone tracking tiles for next time? Also, when you find the thief, live-stream the confrontation. We'll all watch.
To Nigeria's Emergency Services:
Please. Do. Better. This is embarrassing. People are dying because we don't have basic infrastructure. Fix it.
To the Twitter User @FWZISHERE:
If that's really AJ's phone, you've made a terrible mistake. Delete the post. Return the phone. And start running. I'd suggest leaving the country entirely.
UPDATE: If anyone has information about the stolen phone, please do the right thing. Tips can be sent to Nigerian authorities or Anthony Joshua's team.
And if you're the thief reading this... run. Just run.
A boxer knows where you live now (probably). And he's got friends in high places. And low places. And middle places. Basically, you're cooked.
The Nigerian police might not find you, but Joshua's personal investigators will. And when they do, well... let's just say iPhone 16 Plus won't be worth the hospital bills.
In Memoriam
RIP Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Gone too soon.
May their families find peace, and may Nigeria learn from this tragedy to build better emergency systems.
