In Other News, ladies and gentlemen, Update dey!!!
Grab your popcorn because Mr. Nigeria, Ugo Nwokolo, is back on our screens, and if you were hoping he's ready to show off flexed abs or motivational fitness talk this time. No, dear. We're wrong again! In fact, he’s never actually been on the screens for that. Shocking - even for a pageant model. This time, he’s here with a sequel plot twist worthy of a Nollywood blockbuster!
Remember when Ugochukwu (aka Mr. “Poor Girls Turn Me On”) sent the internet into a frenzy with his spiritual and culinary attraction to women from humble backgrounds? Well, guess what? Plot twist - he’s now saying it was all a setup!
In a shocking and sad instrumental documentary (because tell me why they had to use that sad Nigerian Feem soundtrack, and why must it always start with “How many of you remember this…” Why?? And what was that slow-motion display of emotions that made me remember what it was like watching testimonies from BBC Africa in the 90s!).
Ugo Nwokolo recently opened up about how his now-infamous interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast nearly destroyed his career.
According to him, the interview, which was supposed to be a fun, lighthearted chat, turned into a career-wrecking ball. (Someone call 911 Miley) And the man behind it all? None other than the man of the hour and podcast’s host, Nedu Wazobia!
Yes, you read that right! The same Nedu who always finds a way to stir up trouble like he’s on a reality TV show with unlimited data.

Ugo claimed that during his paid appearance on the podcast, Nedu forced him to make the now-viral statement:
“Poor girls turn me on. The poorer the girl, the more attracted I am to her.”
A statement that had social media users ready to drag him to the village square for judgment.
But now, Ugo is saying, “It wasn’t me that stole the meat from the cooking pot! Number Ned stole the meat from the Honest Bunch! He made me do it!”
Now, before you start wondering how Nedu forced a grown-up man like Ugo to say what he never intended to say, I mean, did he ask someone backstage to hold a koboko behind him in case he didn't comply? Or did he call Silverbird and ask them to revoke his supernatural—pardon me—supranational rights if he didn't comply?

Apparently, this is what happened. Nedu told him,
“Oga, Nigerians love drama; say something crazy that will make people drag you small,”
And like a loyal scapegoat, Ugo delivered premium madness without reading the terms and conditions. Now Baba is saying he was manipulated!
Did I hear someone say, “Fine for nothing?”
Mr. Nigeria Supranational also claims that not only was he pressured into saying those words, but Nedu even charged him a whopping N5 million for the appearance. Ah! FIVE MILLION NAIRA for you to go and disgrace yourself publicly by nodding your head to what Nedu says?
Like Ugo really sat down, counted five million naira, and said,
“Take it; use me as you like. Let me trend for the wrong reasons”.
On top of your own paid interview, again?
But then, I guess they are not just the Honest Bunch but the Expensive Bunch!
According to Ugo, poor girls don't turn him on! He was like, “I would never… say such a thing!” (Justice for poor girls, by the way.) He was just playing along with the conversation, unaware that he was about to become the face of romanticizing poverty on the internet.
While he claimed that in his life he has seen manipulators, narcissists, gaslighters, and scammers, Nedu is a discovery. Nigerians were like, We have seen models, we have seen naive people, we have seen clout chasers, but you, Mr. Ugo, are a discovery!!
Of course, Nedu and his team weren’t going to let these allegations slide. The Honest Bunch Podcast quickly released a statement denying all claims.
Their response? “Ugochukwu, you said what you said. Own it!”
According to them,
- Ugo’s appearance was a paid slot, and he had full control over what he wanted to discuss.
- They never forced, pressured, or coached him to say anything.
- He even came with a notepad, meaning he planned his points in advance.
Omo, so was the notepad also manipulated? Or I guess he had to do research on the topic that was given to him.
But I wish they had stopped there! (I’m kidding; I didn’t.) Oh no! They went for the ultimate character assassination, calling out Ugochukwu’s lack of integrity and dignity and questioning whether he’s fit to represent Nigeria on a global stage.

And just when we thought the tea couldn’t get any hotter, they called on Silverbird Group (the organizers of Mr. Nigeria) to investigate Ugochukwu’s moral standing, because, according to them, they couldn't believe how someone of his standards possibly won that pageant competition fair and square.
I won't even lie; I am beginning to ask the same question, because this is not giving supranational vibes at all!! I mean, winning Mr. Supranational means the titleholder represents the ideal modern man—someone who is not just physically attractive but also embodies confidence, intelligence, and social responsibility. But here we are, with a titleholder who’s out here saying, “I paid them to force and manipulate me to say something different.”
So if they told you to say grass is blue, you’d say it too?
Ah ah! You’re Mr. Supranational, not Mr. Scapegoat!
He is supposed to be showcasing the country’s culture, strength, and personality on an international stage!
I think we might have to check that crown—maybe it was a Snapchat filter and not a real title after all!
By the way, with the way Silverbird responded to Honest Bunch's request, I wish the Nigerian police would take notes from them.
With all this drama unfolding, Silverbird has gone all VDM on the matter, as they have now launched an investigation into the situation. Because let's be real - having a scandal-plagued Mr. Nigeria Supranational isn’t exactly great PR.
Will Ugochukwu be stripped of his title? Will Nedu be exposed for alleged podcast manipulation? Or will both men shake hands and pretend like this never happened?
One thing’s for sure, the internet never forgets.
So, dear CheckMate, whose report shall we believe?
Do we believe Ugochukwu, who now claims he was just a naive young man thrown into the lion’s den of podcast virality?
Or do we side with The Honest Bunch Podcast, who are struggling with their honesty right now and basically saying, “We gave you the mic; you ruined yourself”.
And most importantly, why are podcasts becoming Nigeria’s number one crime scene?
We need to start warning people, “Podcast at your own risk!”
In fact, I propose we have a podcast detox day before the trumpet sounds earlier than scheduled because of these podcasters!!
Anyway, let me not keep you too long. If I allow you, you’ll start distributing curses to MTN again, since your data will soon finish.
I'll see you in Other News!
