Check Edgar Lately – Episode 1: So, We’re Doing This?
This is me officially returning to blogging with Check Edgar Lately. I’m talking about why I stopped, why I’m back, and the madness in between—life stories, consistency struggles, weekly gist, small wins, big Ls, and honest laughs, like I’m talking to you, my guy.

Check Edgar Lately – Episode 1: So, We’re Doing This?
Welcome to Check Edgar Lately.
After three years, seven months, two weeks, four days, two hours, and sixteen seconds (yes, I counted), I’ve decided to start blogging again. I used to be a blogger, but I dropped the habit after my neighbour kept shouting that I should focus on my voice and build my career as a voiceover artist or an OAP (not just my neigbour, but everyone else).
Well, here I am, writing again, doing both!
But let’s be honest: blogging isn’t easy. You don’t just need ideas; you need the right words to keep people reading until the last line. These days, most people would rather scroll through TikTok or binge podcasts than sit down and read a blog. So if you’re writing, you have to come correct.
Let me back up and introduce myself (Jesus Christ, I almost forgot).
My name is Edgar Eriakha. I’m a storyteller, podcaster, TV host, voiceover artist, content creator, and now, a resurrected blogger. Since 2015, I’ve been creating content across different platforms. I’ve written commercials for brands like Hollantex, Honeywell, Gaviscon, and Nescafé. Some of you may know me from my prank calls on social media, from The Movie Seven by Tosin Igho, or from watching me every morning on Wake Up Nigeria on TVC Entertainment. Others might know me from dancing like a chicken on the Quick Kash Game Show. And of course, some of you know me from my podcast, Why Am I Still Single?, where I tell hilarious (and sometimes painful) stories about my single life while still hoping to get married someday.
So, why am I writing again? Two reasons: One, Life keeps throwing ridiculous, funny, and sometimes painful moments my way. I realised I didn’t want to keep all that gist locked in my journal, and two, a podcast listener once asked me: “What do you even do with your life when you’re not going on dates?” That question cracked me up, but it also made me realise people only see one side of me.
That’s why I started this blog: to share the small wins, the big Ls, and the random “Did this really just happen?” moments of my week. Basically, I’m inviting you into my gist circle.
Now, let me confess something: I almost didn’t start this blog. Not because I hate writing, but because I was fighting three demons: consistency, procrastination, and finding a blog name that didn’t sound like malaria medicine.
Consistency? Forget it. I and consistency are not friends. I start projects and abandon them halfway. If not for my desperation to find a wife, even my podcast would have joined the graveyard of abandoned ideas. My sister always says, “Pick one thing and stick to it.” But will I listen? No. I get coconut head.
Procrastination? God knows how many times I told myself, “I’ll start blogging next week.” Then the next week came, and I moved it to the next week’s next week. If you’re reading this now, it means we finally reached the “next week” I’ve been talking about for months.
Naming the blog? That one was war. I first chose Weekly Checkup, but it sounded like I was prescribing Panadol. Then I tried Life of E, but it felt vague; E could mean Egg, Elephant, or even Elegant. I later switched to This Week With Edgar, but it felt too basic. Eventually, I said, “Forget the grammar. Let’s call it Check Edgar Lately.” And that’s how we got here.
So, Episode 1 is me simply introducing myself and setting the stage. Nothing too dramatic, yet. Who knows what I’ll talk about next? Maybe a crazy Uber driver story, or how my trousers embarrassed me in public, or a disastrous date experience (though that last one is definitely podcast material).
What I do know is this: I won’t just be writing once a week. I’ve decided to make this madness a proper routine. Every week, I’ll be dropping two blog posts.
The first will be a story blog, a full gist about something that happened to me, something from my past, a wild dream, a first-time experience, or a random concern I have about life.
Then the second one, which I’m calling “This Week with Edgar,” will be a simple weekly journal. A short, funny recap of how my week went, what I worked on, the madness I saw, and maybe a small lesson or confession.
So yeah, twice a week. You’ll get the stories and the summary.
Basically, you’ll know what’s happening in my life before my own family does.
Now, over to you: What’s one thing you’ve tried to stay consistent with, but failed gloriously? Drop it in the comments. I might just hold you accountable, too.
Welcome to Check Edgar Lately. Let the madness begin.
