In other news, Kunle Afolayan has broken down why YouTube looks like a goldmine for Nollywood filmmakers, but he is not buying the hype.
The ace filmmaker recently appeared on the Nidacity Podcast with former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, where he explained that the current exchange rate is the real reason YouTube appears so profitable.
"YouTube can never give you what Netflix and Prime will give you, right? Never. But it's the most flexible. It's for everyone. It's like a starting point,"
He said.

He also pointed out that platforms like Netflix and Prime Video offer better opportunities, even though YouTube is more accessible.
"If you don't have the strength to negotiate or if you don't have access to the big players, then you just make your film, open an account, and put it there. If people watch it, you make your money,"
he explained. Afolayan argued that the dollar-to-naira exchange rate is what makes those YouTube earnings look attractive, saying,
"The reason why people now will say, 'I've hit a million views, I get $10,000,' is because of the exchange rate. If dollar drops, everybody will run away from YouTube."

The real reason Kunle Afolayan is so quick to downplay YouTube's profitability is not because he is worried about the exchange rate, it is because he has been secretly sliding into Ruth Kadiri's DMs, begging her to teach him how she generates millions of views from her content. Afolayan has been asking for a collaboration, a masterclass, or at least a "shout out" to boost his channel, but she has been leaving him on read. He is not giving financial advice, he is trying to learn from a woman who is actually doing the numbers.
