Ycee Said "I'm Not Elitist, I Don't Even Have a Degree", and the Internet Is Confused

In other news , Ycee has entered the chat to clear his name. And honestly? He might have made it worse.

The rapper sat down for an interview and addressed the backlash from his "Olodo Uprising" comments, insisting that he was misunderstood. According to him, people thought he was being classist and elitist because he has some level of education. But here is the kicker: he does not even have a university degree.

"Mind you, I just have my school cert oh, I don't have a uni degree," he clarified like a man who realised the internet was running with a narrative he never signed up for.

Ycee did not stop at the degree revelation. He also shared his thoughts on the pursuit of money, saying he hates what it has done to Nigerian society. "There are countries that are worse off, like war-torn countries, that don't behave as badly as some Nigerians behave," he said, dragging the entire country into the conversation.

He also revealed that many people now justify questionable actions as long as they make money. "Everybody's excuse is, 'I mean, as long as you make money…'" he said, leaving the sentence hanging like the accusation it was.

But the real gem came when he opened up about his love for reading. The man revealed that he once read the entire dictionary. Yes, the whole dictionary. Cover to cover. A to Z. "At some point, I even read like the whole dictionary. Used to have a habit, reading," he said like someone who peaked in secondary school.

He also admitted he cannot read anymore. "I can't read anymore, man. I don't know whether it's ADHD or whatever, but it got to a point where I couldn't even read in school. Around SS2, I was like, 'Yeah, bro, I'm done with this,'" he recalled.

He even joked about his academic aspirations. He had always wanted to study Computer Science at UNILAG but could not meet the cutoff. "It's just sad that at the time I couldn't meet the cutoff to study Computer Science in UNILAG. But now that they've reduced the cutoff in JAMB, maybe if I wrote JAMB now, I would have gotten Computer Science!" he joked.

Ycee's clarification came after his "Olodo Uprising" comments sparked a national debate. The rapper had previously suggested that the pursuit of money was making Nigerians lose their values. But people thought he was looking down on those without formal education. His defence? He is one of them. No degree. Just school cert. And apparently, a dictionary he read in secondary school.

Meanwhile, the internet is having a field day. Some people are applauding his honesty. Others are asking why he is using ADHD as an excuse for not reading. And a few are simply confused about why he brought up reading the dictionary in the first place. 

The real tea is not about the degree or the dictionary. It is that Ycee tried to defend himself and ended up revealing that he stopped reading in SS2, cannot focus anymore, and still blames JAMB for his UNILAG dreams. In 2026, that is the kind of honesty that makes people wonder if he should have just stayed quiet.
