In other news, Prophet Emmanuel Okeke has stirred reactions after declaring that men who cannot independently raise money for their weddings should reconsider getting married, and Nigerian couples are now doing something unexpected: checking their receipts.

Speaking about couples who create WhatsApp groups to solicit financial support for their weddings, the cleric said anyone who needs others to contribute money before he can marry is not fit for marriage.
"You are getting married, and then you are putting us in a group to support you. If you are not old enough to raise money for marriage, you don't need to marry,"
He said.

He added,
"If you need us to support you to marry, you should not marry. You are not fit to marry."
The prophet further warned men against creating WhatsApp groups specifically to raise money for their weddings, insisting that being unable to fund the marriage themselves shows they are not ready for the responsibility.
Okeke also argued that going through the financial challenges of getting married could make a man more willing to endure difficulties in the marriage.
"You need to go through the marriage pain so that when your wife says you're a fool, you will endure her, because you know if you divorce her, you know what you go through to marry another one."
He said.

Nigerian couples have reportedly started auditing their wedding guest lists to find out who contributed and who just showed up to eat. Several newlyweds have been spotted going through old WhatsApp groups and bank statements, checking who sent money and who only sent "congratulations." One bride reportedly told her husband, "Your friend that ate three plates of rice did not send anything. We need to talk about him." The prophet's advice has turned wedding gratitude into a full-scale investigation.
