HEADLINE: Papa Ajasco Has Changed His Name. Nigeria Is Not Okay With This.

In other news, Papa Ajasco has changed his name. Nigeria is not okay with this.

Let me set the scene for you. Veteran Nollywood actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, the man Nigeria knows, loves, and has watched on television since before some of us had teeth, has officially rebranded himself. He has abandoned the name Papa Ajasco. He no longer answers to it. He has chosen a new identity.

His new name is Bondu Alaska.

(laughs like Julius Agwu)

I want you to say that out loud. Bondu. Alaska. The American state. The one with polar bears and snow and absolutely no connection to Yorubaland whatsoever.

Now our sources, the man from Third Mainland Bridge, who has now built a small kiosk there and is selling pure water and information, have confirmed the real reason behind this rebrand.

Papa Ajasco visited Alaska in 2024 for a film festival. While there, he experienced what he described as "stable electricity for seven consecutive days." When he returned to Nigeria, and NEPA took light four times in one afternoon, something shifted inside him. He decided that if Nigeria could not give him Alaska's electricity, he would at least carry Alaska's name.

(shakes head like Ayra Starr)

The Actors Guild of Nigeria has released a statement saying they "respect his decision" but that they will continue to call him "Papa Ajasco" "for administrative purposes". His co-stars have said they will "try their best". His character's children on the show have said they are "confused about what to call him now."

Wale Adebayo, the actor who played Wale Ajasco, has simply refused to comment. He is believed to be somewhere, staring at a wall, processing.

Nigeria's meteorological service has confirmed that Alaska remains approximately 9,000 kilometres away and that the electricity situation here has not changed.

Edgar doesn't lie

.

Source: A polar bear in Alaska who said he has no idea who Bondu is but that he is welcome to visit anytime. The electricity there is fine.

If you enjoyed this story, you will also enjoy the time Davido performed at Coachella and subsequently made a very important life decision about his future in Nigeria. Read it here: Davido Performed At Coachella. He Has Since Refused To Come Back To Nigeria.

And if any of this is making you question the decisions adults make, so am I. Listen to my podcast, Why Am I Still Single? Available right here on checkedgar.com.
