Davido Dropped ORIADÉ. He Says He's in His Crown Era, But the Crown Is Giving Neck Pain.

In other news, Davido is wearing a custom crown everywhere, from gym to bed, insisting "a king never removes his crown." The new album is just an excuse to flex the headwear while tailor Praise Solomon gets rich on triple-priced redesigns. Music? Strictly secondary.

In other news, Davido did what he does every year now: release another album and remind us he has been doing this for 15 years.

The Afrobeats superstar dropped his sixth studio album, ‘’ORIADÉ’’, on Friday. The 13-track project is his shortest album yet, breaking away from the 17-track format he has used for all his previous albums. The title comes from the Yoruba words "Ori" (destiny) and "Ade" (crown), which together translate to "the crowned head." Davido says he is in his "crown era" and feeling like a king. The album features a star-studded lineup including Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Leon Thomas, Mayorkun, and FOLA. He even put a lesser-known artist called Llona on the closing track because he believes he "should be number one in America."

The album rollout has been careful and calculated. The lead single, ‘’I Know Who I Be’’, featured a music video shot in his childhood home, revisiting the place where his journey began. He has described the album as a return to his African roots, saying he made it "really African" because he feels artists are "losing touch" trying to get validation from the Western world. The album arrives exactly 15 years after he released his breakout single, ‘’Back When’’, in 2011.

But here is what the blogs did not tell you.

The real reason Davido is celebrating his "crown era" so loudly is that he finally convinced his tailor to make a crown that fits his head. He has been trying to wear a crown for years, but his head was too big from all the success. The tailor had to take three measurements, two fittings, and one very awkward conversation about ego before they got it right. Now that the crown fits, he is determined to wear it everywhere, to the studio, to the gym, even to bed. His team has reportedly asked him to take it off during interviews, but he refuses because "a king does not remove his crown for anyone." The album is just an excuse to show off the crown. The music is secondary.

(rubs forehead like Wizkid, calculating how much a tailor charges for a custom crown these days)

Edgar doesn't lie.

Source: The tailor who made the crown, Praise Solomon, and has already been paid triple because Davido kept changing the design.
