In this episode, I introduce you to Christine, a lady who made me fall in love with going to church. But as I got closer to her, I discovered she carried some serious hidden baggage. Christine wasn’t just a regular churchgoer—she had a deep fascination with the dark arts, a strange fear of birds and water, and was haunted by a terrifying dream about her own death.
Edgar
Okay! Some years ago, I went to visit a friend of mine who had this visitor at his place, a friend of his. As I was chewing the groundnut and drinking the fanta that my friend offered me, he and his friend were having this beautiful conversation about where they believe the most beautiful ladies in Nigeria are from and the perfect place to find the perfect woman. It was a very interesting conversation.
Edgar
As you all may know, I am not the best person to give advice or suggestions when it comes to things relating to women. I do not know a lot or have the rizz like most guys do, and at the time, I was just served some hot breakfast, so I was far from love or women in general, but for some reason I was enjoying their conversation.
Edgar
As they were discussing, they kept mentioning different states in Nigeria and how the ladies in these states looked. My friend was of the opinion that the finest ladies in Nigeria are from Lagos State; his friend, however, disagreed; his reason was that the finest girls in Lagos are not from Lagos. That the original Lagos girl looks more like a catfish. To my friend's visitor, the finest girls are from Delta State; my friend did not agree and said Delta girls are mostly light-skinned than beautiful, and light skin doesn't mean you're beautiful; it only means youre light. Then his friend said no and argued again that Imo State ladies are more beautiful than the ladies from Lagos State because Genevive is from Imo State and she is more beautiful than most ladies in Nollywood. They went on and on and talked about Abuja girls, Kano, Ondo, and other states. I am sure you imagined the two guys discussing were probably handsome men, but trust me, they were far from it. My friend is not fine; his friend is uglier than my friend. The sad truth is that jobless men can spend hours arguing about anything, whether it makes sense or not. After all, they don't have jobs.
Edgar
By the way, I wouldn't speak in a conversation about the most beautiful women in Nigeria; as a matter of fact, that is the reason why I made this podcast, so we can talk and find my perfect girl, but if I were to suggest the state with the most beautiful women in Nigeria, I would say Edo State for two reasons. Before you crucify me, chill. Let me give you my reasons first.
Edgar
One, my mother is from Edo State, and I think that she is the true definition of beauty. She is the most beautiful woman in this world, and if I am being honest, the gap between my mother and your mother is wide. If you disagree, argue with your father and your ancestors.
Edgar
Now my second reason for choosing Edo girls is that my sister is from Edo State, and just after my mom, she is next in line. Yes, I said it. Anyway, when it comes to beauty, I believe that people look at beauty differently. Some like it fair, some like it dark, some like it short, and some like it tall. Some like that Coca-Cola bottle figure, while others love them in Jerrican 50 liters. Whatever form you love or see as beauty, you are not wrong. The most beautiful woman in Nigeria is a Nigerian. Period!
Edgar
Back to my friend and his visitor, because the story doesn't end there; as a matter of fact, that's not what the podcast today is about. The podcast is more about the second topic my friend and his friend were discussing. Where is the best place to find the perfect girl?
Edgar
In my mind, I thought this was going to take forever because people define the word "Perfect" differently. What I consider perfect might just be trash to you. What you consider perfect might just be trash to me. For example, I do not consider short girls perfect. Life is too short to be short. In short, let's go back to the story.
Edgar
So I listened to them again. My friend started by mentioning a few places, like workspaces, your street, girls from the village, and other places. As he was suggesting places in Nigeria, my friend's visitor mentioned that the best place to find a perfect woman is in the church. He said a true church girl is loving, caring, willing to submit to her man, and will always stay prayerful. You can never go wrong with a true church girl. Immediately after he said that, my friend agreed and said his best relationships came from the ladies he met the few times he went to church. He said only a true church girl would stick with you when things were great and still be there when things went bad.
Edgar
That got me thinking. Wait o! If church girls are the best, why do we have more failed Christian marriages than other religions? If church girls are the best, why do we have so many ladies in churches over 40 looking for men to marry? Why isn't everyone running to the church?
Edgar
Wait first; I know they kept using the term "a true church girl." Does that mean there are false church girls? How do you really define a true church girl or even know the difference?
Edgar
My head was everywhere. This happened about three years after the university, sometime in 2021, but it was in that moment that I remembered my story about the church girl I liked at some point back at the university. I dont know if she was a true or false church girl but she was the one who led me to christ again. She gave me a different perspective on life and showed me the light. If you have ever dated someone in church and would like to share that story with me, then you can share your story through email at edgar@checkedgar.com. On today's episode of Why Am I Still Single?, I am going to be telling you a story about my church experience with a lady that I loved a lot. Her name was Christine, but by the way, this isn't one of the proudest stories I will be telling. So do not judge me. Remember that love is diverse, and whether you are the most beautiful girl in Nigeria or the daughter of the general overseer, a man knows what he wants and wants what he knows. This is "Why am I still single? And you're about to listen to "Christine from church."
Edgar
Edgar doesn't lie. Let's go!
Edgar
Just before we get deep into this episode, I think its important to thank you all for listening so far. Edgar
Alright, let's go back to the story.
Edgar
Before I met Christine, I was the kind of guy who didn't really care so much about church. I hardly went to church because of so many reasons. Nigerians can be too religious. I grew up with parents who didn't believe spiders or birds entering the house were normal. To my mom, everything had a spiritual meaning. She would often say that the spiritual controls the physical. So going to church was a must for spiritual cleansing. My mother will force me to go to church, whether I like it or not. But when I was in school, you wouldn't find me there, except when they were sharing food with first-timers or I was pretty certain the church had babies.
Edgar
I often used to hear that God is everywhere, so I assumed or concluded that he was in my bedroom as well. I don't have to go to church to encounter God.
Edgar
So, how did I meet Christine? One day, after school work was done, my friends and I, Fela and Nuel, were sitting outside our classrooms when some people from MFM, which is Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, a church in Nigeria, came around to share fliers for a program coming up very soon in their church. They called the act evangelism.
Edgar
As they were sharing and inviting people, they divided themselves and went in different directions to get different people. This lady, with a very long skirt, covered hair, no earrings, no makeup, or colored finger nails, walked up to me and my friends to share and invite us to her church. Before she could get to us, my friends, Fela and Nuel, had stylishly disappeared, leaving me with her. Now, I must confess, she looked very beautiful, very beautiful. Nobody had to tell me; I could see the glory of the Lord on her come down like a dove in the sky. No, the girl is fine.
Edgar
When she walked up to me, she introduced herself and told me the name of her church, MFM. Now, I wasn't strange to the church at all. My mother and sister attend this same church, and to this very day they still do.
Edgar
At first, I thought it was God using technique to catch me back to church, but unlike the others, sharing fliers and moving to the next person. Christine said she wanted to pray with me and asked if I didn't mind. I agreed. She held my hands and started praying. If you see how soft her palms were, I started wondering when she joined MFM because the church is used to breaking spiritual chains and yoke. Her palms couldn't even break eggs, talkless of breaking spiritual yoke. Her praying pattern was also not as aggressive as that of the regular MFM members I know. Everything was done with ease.
Edgar
She asked for my name and the course I was studying at school. She asked if I would be able to make it to her church that Sunday, saying that she would really love to see me and that God had great plans for me. I was just smiling like a fool. See ehn. This life is all about packaging and presentation. Something my parents have been struggling to do for a while this girl was doing it with ease.
Edgar
Just so I wouldn't lose her, I had to give her a Bible punchline. I was like, "Sorry, I was reading the book of numbers the other day, and yours wasn't in it. Do you mind giving me yours?"
Edgar
She started blushing and shaking her head like this boy is a deep candidate for hell. When she wasn't responding, I had to change it. So I asked her for her WhatsApp number so that I could call her for early morning prayers and Bible study. She laughed. She told me she wasn't on WhatsApp for now because her phone was bad. She brought out this small itel phone and collected my number, saying that she would give me a call after the evangelism was done. She waved, smiled, and left. I don't know why, but I was excited about church that day. I felt the spirit on me. It was like I was born again.
Edgar
When I got to my hostel later that evening, I received a message from an unknown number. It said, "Hi Sir, this is Christine from MFM, I hope your day is going well, bro. See you in church on Sunday, bro."
Edgar
Immediately, I called her. Why will she be calling me bro? How old am I? Who is your bro? Don't you know your family members? I know some of you will say it's respect, but no, I don't want that kind of respect. That, Bro, is like saying, I don't want any problems with you; come to church and go home. Like she only saw me as a church member and nothing more. I felt it was too professional. So I called her.
Edgar
If you see the way she sounded on the phone, yes, she attends MFM, but her voice was very Catholic. Smooth. There was no noise, like she was using autotune. She said, "Hi Edgar", My whole body got paralyzed. She asked why I called, and immediately I changed it. I told her that it was because of the bad dream I had two months ago that I needed prayers. You needed to see my roommates laughing. She said, "Should I send the head pastor's number to you?" I said, No, oh! Just pray for me, and I will be fine. She laughed and prayed. When she was done, she said, Goodnight, Bro. That was when I remembered why I even called in the first place. I said, Please don't call me Bro; I would prefer you call my name instead. She said "Edgar?". If you hear how she pronounced it that day, it was so charming. Even my mother has never called me like that before. So sweet. You know how they used to call people in the dream to initiate them to a cult, exactly. That was how it sounded. "Edgar, Edgar, Edgar." She told me she had to go, and we ended the call.
Edgar
That night, I was a very happy person. The next morning, I called her again and told her that my spirit asked me to pray for her and that something serious was going to happen to her that day. She smiled and said maybe the spirit was talking about her test for one of her courses. I asked what she was studying and she said sociology. I was impressed. Not only is she good physically and spiritually, but she is also good socially. Is God not good? I told her I would come see her after her test. She seemed pretty excited and told me she couldn't wait to see me.
Edgar
If you see the way I sprayed perfume on my body, even the devil could not believe it. If you had seen me, you would have thought it was sweat. It is not that I smell or anything like that, but you know what they say: "dress the way you want to be addressed." Her address was the faculty of the social sciences; it was my own turn for evangelism.
Edgar
I called her 3 minutes after the test and told her I was outside. When she saw me, she ran towards me and gave me this big side hug. That was when my brain reminded me that she was a church girl. Before I could say, "How was your test?" She said, Let's pray. We held hands and she started praying. When she was done, she said her test was great. She thanked me for my prayers and said she felt that God made it easy because of my prayers.
Edgar
I just smiled. In my mind, before unko! Do you know who I am to God? I am his great-great-grandson. Direct. No extended family. The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree; I am the apple of his eyes. I did not say any of these to her, by the way; I just smiled throughout.
Edgar
She asked if i had eaten, and I said no. So we went to have lunch at a nearby restaurant. That was where we started talking more about ourselves. She asked me why I chose creative arts and my plans for the future. I told her all my big dreams and how I plan to become one of the most famous creatives the world has ever seen. When I asked her for hers, she said she didn't have a plan because God does all the planning. That she is open to whatever God says. Outside, I was smiling; inside, I was feeling like an idiot; I felt prideful. I should have said something similar. Why did I not think about that line?
Edgar
Anyway, I walked her to her hostel and promised to check up on her later. She smiled, side-hugged me, and reminded me to come to church on Sunday.
Edgar
The Saturday before that Sunday, she called me again and told me she was super excited about seeing me the next day. She said she wanted to know what color of cloth I was wearing so she would wear something similar. I was excited. She said she was also going to keep a seat for me by her side, so we could sit next to each other. I asked if there would be food for the first-timers; she said no, but that the word of God was going to fill my belly and quench my thirst. I said okay. I told her I was going to wear this green native attire for the service. She said she was going to wear a green dress to compliment mine. I was super excited. It was like God was making everything work for my good with all the green flags. She told me she had a gift for me if I came early.
Edgar
On a normal day, I usually get to church most times when the pastor is in his second point about to round up his sermon but on this sunday, I was early. Again, I baptised myself with perfume and got to church on time. The ushers were trying to direct me to where I could sit. I told them I already had a seat. They shouldn't worry.
Edgar
From a distance, I saw Christine, looking bright like a christmas tree in green. If you had seen her that day, you would have thought she was either my sister or my girlfriend. From her dress, I knew the spirit of God was in this church. She didn't say much. "Welcome Edgar." She held my fingers and took me to her seat. She looked me in the eye and said, Thank you for coming. She brought out this wrapped box and gave it to me as my gift. On the wrapper, she wrote from Christine to my perfume hero, Mr. Edgar. I started to blush-laugh. That means you cover your blushing with laughter. In my head, what kind of perfume can this be, or did she buy a box of different perfumes? I asked if I could open it, and she said yes. You can open it now. So I did.
Edgar
To my greatest surprise, it wasn't a perfume; it was a big bible with some prayer manuals. I won't lie; I wasn't excited about it. Like I already have it on my phone; why get a physical Bible? Anyway, I smiled and told her I prayed for a Bible, and this is God answering my prayer. She was so excited.
Edgar
After the service, we walked to my hostel, where she told me she was happy I came and also informed me she had repaired her phone and was on WhatsApp. I was excited. I don't have to take long walks to her hostel or only see her during the day. I could call her on WhatsApp and even have a more interesting conversation. I added her on WhatsApp the next day, and we began to chat more frequently than normal.
Edgar
Although I wouldn't lie, I noticed that things were different online. The Christine I knew from the days of her itel phone or on Sundays was quite different from the Christine on WhatsApp. She had this scary-looking profile picture on WhatsApp. An old woman with one eye and lots of sharp teeth that I couldn't count. When I asked her why she used it as her profile picture, she said she is a big fan of dark art. That she loves horror movies. Now, I love horror movies too, but there was just something weird about putting it as a representation of you on your profile picture.
Edgar
That wasn't the only problem I had. Her WhatsApp status as well was another issue. She would post dead animals and frequently write "Help me". When I asked her about her status, she said the dead animals represent the different sacrifices that were made in the Old Testament for our sins and that "help me" was a way of asking Jesus for help, as he was the only true sacrifice. Although I didn't buy it, she kept explaining that everything was related to Jesus.
Edgar
The weird part is that this girl has never posted a bible verse before on her status. Not even once. When I asked her why, she said posting Bible verses had been abused. That she is a different Christian, and true Christians understand that posting Bible verses does not validate your Christian life.
Edgar
She would always smile while giving these responses, but something kept telling me there was something wrong or off with her. Something she was hiding. Something she doesn't want me or the church to know. I was going to find it. I thought of a way, a game, something that would expose her or get her to share more about herself. And she did. She told me a lot about her. We will talk about those things she said after the short break. Don't go anywhere; WAISS will be right back. Edgar doesn't lie.
Edgar

Edgar
Now Christine has a sweet heart. This lady will send me new gospel songs and links to evening prayers. She really wanted me to be a top spiritual brother, but the way she was living on WhatsApp was the direct opposite of the lady when you see her in person. In person, she is calm, all covered up, and gentle, but online, she is the direct opposite, fast, opened up, and loved to talk.
Edgar
So one evening, while we were chatting, I called her on the phone and told her I wanted to see her in person the next day. She asked why, and I told her I wanted to spend some time with her and that I had missed her. She went quiet for some time, and then she said okay. She said she would send me a message or beep my phone after class so we could meet somewhere. The next day, around 3 pm, she called me and told me she was waiting at a place called Love Garden. If you have ever been to the University of Lagos, you know very well that Love Garden has nothing to do with love or gardening. It is just a place with hopeless trees and designed stones where you can sit to enjoy some fresh air. Anyway, I went to sit there, waiting for her. When she got there, she gave me a side hug and told me a lot about her classes. I also told her about my day. Not long after, I told her I wanted us to play a game.
Edgar
A game where she gets to ask me questions about myself, and I get to ask her about herself as well. She was cool with it, so I started. I asked her for her favorite color, and she said black. She asked for my favorite fruit, and I said pineapples. I asked for her best day of the week; she said Sunday because of church, obviously; she asked for mine, and I said Friday because I get to rest. We went on and on until I started asking the specific questions that made me play the game. I had three questions.
Edgar
The first one I asked was for her to tell me her biggest fear. I wanted to know what she doesn't like and the things that make her scared. She said her biggest fear were Snakes and flying birds. When I asked her why, she said she really doesn't know but that her body hurts whenever she sees a snake or a bird, whether in pictures, movies, or in real life. I could feel her goosebumps as she spoke. She even said she can tell when there is a snake or bird around her.
Edgar
Now that I understand the exaggeration with snakes, I don't like snakes either. I used to have a friend I blocked one time like that because she told me she liked snakes and had plans to keep one as a pet. E shock you, abi? Exactly. Anyway, I hate snakes, but birds, cmon! Those things are harmless. Why will anyone hate birds?. She said she didn't like any bird that could fly. I did not understand that one. I remember how I tried to change the mood with a joke. I said to her, "You may not like birds, but you are the prettiest bird I have ever seen." She started laughing; she was like, I am one of those guys her pastor used to warn her about. When I asked her what kind of guy that was, she said that her pastor told her to be careful of guys who will say anything nice just to get into your pants and steal your virtue.
Edgar
Steal your virtue! I was forming vexed. Why will I do that? I don't like you for your body. Isn't your body the temple of the living God? She started smiling.
Edgar
She asked me, How many temples of the living God have you destroyed? I was confused. How many girls have you slept with? You needed to see the way I shouted Jesus like someone got shot in front of me. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. We both started laughing.
Edgar
I asked her my second question. I asked her to tell me something fun she could never do. My reason for asking that was that I wanted to know how different she was from me. She thought about it for a while and then said, Emmm, I don't think I will ever go to the beach, talkless of entering the water.
Edgar
When I asked why, she said that she was scared of the water at the beach. That she has heard so many stories of how the water takes people away. She said the last time she visited the beach, which was the only time, she got close to the water and that the water was calling her name in a strange manner.
Edgar
Calling her name? How? I was confused. She said she got home and prayed about it, and since then she has been fine. At this point, I didn't even want to push for her to explain better.
Edgar
My final question was for her to tell me if she had a boyfriend or a young pastor she was seeing? I wanted to know if the Red Sea was open so I could pass before she fell into my wall of Jericho.
Edgar
She laughed. She said she knew that I was going to ask her that but would only answer if I answered the question first. Now here is some advice: if a lady tells you to answer questions about your relationship status before she does, there is a high chance she is only going to determine what she says based on what you say.
Edgar
So I pushed the question back and told her to answer first. She laughed for a while and then answered. She said she was single and that she had been searching for a while now. That since she got to university, the story has been the same. A young guy meets her, like her, and just when she feels comfortable, she opens up to him, and then he vanishes.
Edgar
I was concerned so i asked. Do you think this is happening because youre a church girl? She said no. A lot of them are church boys, but they keep giving the same response. She said they all told her at one point or another that when they prayed and asked God if she was the one for them, God said no.
Edgar
Six different guys have entered her life since her first year; four of them from her church used the same line. She felt bad. I felt happy. I felt it was the perfect time to shoot my shot. What did I not say that day?
Edgar
I first started from her beauty, i told her that the men that left did not know what they lost. That she was so beautiful that even Queen Elizabeth would give her the crown if they met. I said her palms were so soft that David had to write about it in the Bible. She was laughing.
Edgar
I was about to leave there when she said she too had three questions for me. Ah, I wasn't ready, but I sat there, praying for the best and expecting the worst.
Edgar
Her questions were very direct. Before she asked them, she said that while I answered, I should look into her eyes as I spoke. That she knows how to read the eyes, and she will know if I am lying or telling the truth if I talk while looking into her eyes.
Edgar
I was like, "Edgar doesn't lie." That's not a problem; I will look well. Is it not eye? Her first question was, "Do you have a girlfriend, and are you open to dating one?" I first laughed. That laugh was more like, If only she knew how long ago I had been searching for a babe. I told her I was single and that I was searching for the right one. That it has been a long time since I wished to find the bone of my bone.
Edgar
She said okay and asked the second question. This one hit me like Brodashaggi and went straight to my chest. She said, "Are you in love with me?". I started to stammer. I didnt see the question coming. It was too direct. I wasn't used to girls asking the question in that manner. Usually, a lady would rather follow you out, stay over at your place, call you goat or fish from time to time, steal your clothes and then cook for you before she starts calling you babe. You hardly find women who ask men that question directly.
Edgar
So I said, I like you a lot, and I am grateful for your heart and your friendship. I don't know if this is love oh but I know there is something there. She said no, no, no, don't say that, Edgar. Your eyes wont lie. I know you love me; please do not keep the truth from me.
Edgar
I was lost. She did not stop there oh. She said the day she saw me during the evangelism, that God told her she would meet her man. That she has been fighting it, but she thinks that the man is me. She looked into my eyes again and asked me for the second time. "Do you love me?"
Edgar
I was quiet for like five seconds, then I said yes, Christine I think I do. Now let me just say here that although I said I do, the truth is that i wasn't really sure. I just felt that was the right answer at that moment. Its like someone you like proposes to you in public, and people are screaming, "Say yes, say yes, say yes." Even if you don't like the person that much, you will still say yes to cover their shame. Exactly.
Edgar
That was how i was feeling. I liked her but i wanted it to grow. Anyways. Back to Christine, because she wasnt done. She still had a question to ask. Her third question. This one was the most technical.
Edgar
She said, "Will you date me if my past was ugly but my future was bright?" I did not even understand the question. I told her if I were to date any lady, it would not be because of her past or future but because I love her, and love is enough. She started crying. She says that she loves me a lot and that she believes everything was God's plan.
Edgar
Just before we left the place, she looked at me and asked me a different question. One I really haven't thought about. She asked me to define my type of woman. "Ain't got no type" that was going to be my actual response, but because I was talking to a spiritual sister, a true church girl, I said that my type of woman is someone who is spiritual, God-loving, and listens when God speaks.
Edgar
By the way, any time you hear a guy say he wants a lady who is spiritual and God-loving before the appearance of the woman, just know that it is a big scam. A very big lie. They only say these things so that you won't judge them or see them as unrighteous.
Edgar
Anyway, I mentioned everything a true church girl will like to hear. Spiritual, Christlike, God-loving, hard-working, brilliant, loves to listen, dig deep into his word, and appreciates God way more than money and other things.
Edgar
She looked at me and said, "My type of man is you, Edgar; I want you."
Edgar
If you see the way, my large intestine jumped up and started dancing. It was like someone who had been fasting for 20 days finally got jollof rice from Chicken Republic. Inside, I was boiling with joy, and outside, I was saying, "Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus."
Edgar
She started laughing again. She was like, I should go into comedy. I didn't say anything. Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time, she didn't give me a huge side hug. She gave me a full chest-to-chest hug. She also didn't call me Bro. or Brother Edgar; she called me Eddy. Eddy!
Edgar
Do you know the last time someone called me Eddy? I was smiling like I stole meat from a pot. That day, I left Love Garden feeling fulfilled. She left the garden, and I left with her love.
Edgar
We started talking a lot more than usual. We would pray together, sing Christian songs, and then study the Bible together. I started attending church more often than normal. I will go on Sunday for Sunday service, Monday programs, Wednesday, and even sometimes Saturday evangelism.
Edgar
My friends did not believe it. Me that was always shouting that God does not exist. Come and see me casting out demon. Its a lie, oh, I did not cast any demons, but i preached the gospel. Christine was always by my side. Encouraging me as we do the work of God together.
Edgar
It got so bad that there was a time she called me to follow her to church to clean chairs and sweep. I did not even think about it. I just said yes. When i told my friends, they said the girl had jazzed me. I told them it was the Holy Spirit working. Guys, I was cleaning chairs and singing songs. Those days, ehn.
Edgar
I remember the first time i tried to kiss her. That day, we went to her hostel from church. We were discussing school work and setting goals. When she told me, something entered her eye. I got closer to help blow the dirt. In that moment, i was just about to kiss her, if you see the way she flared up. She was like, "Brother Edgar, what are you doing? Hold yourself together."
Edgar
I started to apologise. The way I blamed the devil ehn. Even Lucifer did not see it coming. She calmed me down and told me if I wanted to kiss her and come upon her throne, I had to marry her. I told her I was sorry and that it wasn't going to ever happen. She smiled and told me she trusted me. Let me not lie; I did not trust me oh. I just felt it would take more time, but I had it in mind.
Edgar
So what went wrong? Why am I still single? What happened to me and the true church girl, Christine?
Edgar
One evening, she came to my class to see me. Most people had left the class at this time; it was just us. She wasn't her happy self. She said she had something she wanted to discuss with me. A dream she has been having since she was 15.
Edgar
When I asked her about the dream, she said she had not shared it with anyone, not even her church. That she has prayed and fasted, but it still keeps coming back. She said in her dream that she sees herself at the beach with someone, someone she doesn't know. Suddenly the person starts to sink in the sand, and while she is trying to rescue the person, a bird from the sky comes after her and pursues her to the water, where she drowns and dies.
Edgar
She said she has been having this dream since she was 15. I couldnt wrap my head around it. When I asked her why she didn't tell the church, she said it was because she was scared and she didn't want to be judged.
Edgar
I asked her if she had ever seen me in her dream holding her hand, and she said No. That she doesn't want to. We prayed about it, and I remember asking her this morning if she had the dream again. This was the beginning of the end for us.
Edgar
Every day was like every other day until one evening, when she called and told me she was going to a church program and that the general overseas was visiting the church at the back of the school. If you know MFM well, you will know that their headquarters are not far from Unilag. She wanted me to follow her, but I wasn't feeling well that day, so I didn't make plans to go. I told her to pray for us and pray that I got well. I think i had malaria. I can't remember.
Edgar
When she got to church, she sent me a message that she was missing me, and then she really wished I came around. She said if i could try and make it, that she would make my favorite meal for me the next day. Fried yam and fried eggs. You needed to see me that evening because of food. I got up, entered the shower, and left for church.
Edgar
I did not know that Wednesday was a different service. It was called Miracle and Deliverance Wednesday, and since it was MFM, they were not going to take it easy with the devil.
Edgar
The prayers were hot, and we were told to hold someone and pray with them. I was holding Cynthia. People were praying. It was intense. I dont even know how it happened from nowhere Cynthia started screaming. She was shouting, "Leave me alone, leave me alone." The next thing she started making sounds like a bird. Suddenly, she stopped and started laughing. I was confused. It was as if she ran mad. She was rolling on the floor and scattering things.
Edgar
Some ushers had to hold her down. The more the pastor prayed, the more she shouted. The tone of her voice changed from that of a woman to that of a man. She started shouting, "Her body is mine Her body is mine". You needed to see the way my legs were shaking. It was like I was watching a film. The pastor started saying, "Go out of her; leave her in the name of Jesus." I did not know who or what he was talking about. She gave a very long scream, then kept quiet. The next thing the pastor said was that he could see two demons leaving her. Two what? Where? How? Is this not Cynthia, the true church girl? What is the demon looking for inside her?
Edgar
I didn't say anything. I just kept quiet, and I was looking at her. She got up, dusted herself, and we walked back to her hostel together. On our way back to school, I didn't say anything. I was just looking at her. Two demons? Only God knows how many demons are left. Maybe that is why God wanted me to follow her to church.
Edgar
When I got home, I started to think about everything. Could this be the reason she likes dark art? Could this be why her status was filled with blood? Maybe it was the demon in her that didn't like the beach. Or is she a river goddess, which is why she doesn't like water? Or a witch who doesn't like birds. My brain was everywhere. That was when my brain started thinking about my own life. What if she initiated me with the meals she made? And my mom used to warn me not to collect food from strangers. Have I become a demon like this? I was worried. I was waiting to go to sleep to see if I would see anything in my dream.
Edgar
There were even days I will see birds and i would start thinking again about her. It was really getting messy. I didn't visit the beach for a very long time.
Edgar
Things never remained the same. Little by little, I started to withdraw from her. I did not want problems, nor did I want demons. I started calling her Sister Christine. When she noticed this, she wasn't happy, but I couldn't help it. I liked her a lot, but I wasn't ready to put my life on the line because of love. We stopped talking for a while, and then later, just hi, hey, hello.
Edgar
Like I mentioned at the beginning, I know I shouldn't have ended things like that, but please don't judge me. Most of you would have done worse if you were in my shoes. The truth is, I like Christine. Sorry, Sister Christine, but I was scared. I couldn't deal with the consequences of reality if she still had demons in her. Even if she didn't. I wasn't ready for that journey. What would you have done differently?
Edgar
Back to the main topic and question. Who is a true Christian girl? Well, the truth is, you never can tell. The best place to find love is anywhere your heart leads you. Not everyone you see that looks good is actually good. Christine is a good one, but I wasn't willing to let her past go after all.
Edgar
So, whether you're a true church girl or a regular church girl,. What's important is that you love God and stay true to yourself. Edgar doesn't lie.
